This is a great opportunity to work on an exciting range of licensed books, managing the end-to-end publication process of predominantly illustrated children’s books.

Our partner, the world’s leading illustrated non-fiction trade publisher, seeks an imaginative Managing Editor to manage a dynamic editorial team on a 12 month maternity cover contract. 

In this role, you will manage the current list, scout for fresh and innovative authors, liaise with internal departments to streamline project execution, and have the opportunity to commission new titles. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Editorial management of the list: creating and pitching new book concepts in acquisitions meetings. Holding responsibility for the efficient delivery of titles, program strategy, and growth of the list. 
  • Project and People management: Line managing a team of Editors, with duties including: overseeing the timely creation of sales materials, ensuring on time delivery of materials for production, setting and managing budgets. 
  • Internal and External communication: Managing relationships with third party contributors, licensors, high profile authors and agents; ensuring key stakeholders are apprised of publishing plans and relevant approvals are sought. Maintaining open lines of communication across all relevant internal divisions and teams. 

The successful candidate will be highly adaptable, have knowledge of the global children’s book market, and possess strong relationship management skills. Licensing experience in a publishing environment is desirable.

Salary: c. £44k DOE

Work pattern & location: This role will follow a hybrid working pattern with 3 days a week at their London office.
