This is a great opportunity to take ownership over a range of exciting new titles from commission to publication. 

Our partner is one of the UK’s most exciting independent publishers, who specialise in creating beautifully crafted illustrated books for both adults and children. 

We are seeking an ambitious and entrepreneurial Senior/Commissioning Editor to join their team and be responsible for delivering a new commercial Lifestyle list, with subjects spanning: cookery, gardening, crafts, and more. 

This role may suit Editors or Senior Editors (with commissioning experience) ready to take the next step in their career, or Commissioning Editors with a passion for lifestyle publishing. 

Strong candidates will be market focussed, financially astute, ambitious, and capable of independently delivering a commercial publishing list.   

Key responsibilities: 

  • Identify potential book projects that align with the goals and target audience of the company.
  • Actively commission and manage an exciting new lifestyle list for the adult colour-illustrated market across various related subject areas.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, market demands, customer feedback, and competitor activities to stay informed and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Create and manage both the frontlist and backlist programme. 
  • Negotiate acquisitions, contracts, and act as a primary point of contact for new authors.

Experience and skills required:

  • Extensive experience in commissioning illustrated books in the lifestyle genres. 
  • Keen understanding of US and UK markets, as well as foreign language co-edition.
  • Ability to conceive and deliver projects hands on, as well as building publishing strategy.  
  • Forward thinking, with strong commercial awareness and excellent creative vision. 
  • Strong communication skills and confidence collaborating in a fast moving, entrepreneurial environment. 

Salary: DOE

Work pattern & location: Hybrid working pattern in London office.
