Production Editor - Adult Illustrated

This role reports to the Publisher for adult titles.
An independent publisher of illustrated books is looking for a proficient Production Editor to join their team and manage the design development and pre-production of their colour illustrated adult books, packs and books plus, ensuring they are ready for print.
In this role, you will ensure colour-illustrated book quality by managing freelance designers, cover art meetings, colour proofing and repro houses.
Key responsibilities:
- Production Quality Control: Prepare and proof press-ready final artwork for printers; ensure quality and collaborate with editors and designers; conduct final reviews of content, ensure all technical elements in InDesign are correct and send printer-ready PDFs to the Production team.
- Pre-production proofing and sign-off with the publisher.
- Project & Vendor Management: Research stock images and commission illustrators; budget, schedule, negotiate fees, and licence artists, stock picture agencies, and repro houses; and resolve any production-related issues that arise during the colour-editing process.
Successful candidates will have:
- Excellent experience and understanding of adult co-ed mono and colour-illustrated publishing.
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
- Knowledge of graphic design, typography, layout composition, image-making, editorial design and art direction.
- Excellent understanding of print production processes including: colour matching, specialist print techniques, inks, finishes and bindings.
- Ability to brief design on technical elements of preparing files for print.
This role will suit someone who has a strong understanding and passion for pre-production, design, and editorial processes.
